Why I don't call you to let you know that you didn't get the job.

I know. This is no excuse but I would like to run the numbers for you.

I work on 25 to 35 job openings per month.

I talk to about 50 people per day.

Out of those 50 people I usually send 5 resumes to hiring managers for consideration per day.

That's 25 resumes per week. 100 resumes per month. 1200 resume per year.

I've has 52 hires in the last year.

So, that means that 1148 people did not get a job this year. That's 24 people every week that did not get the job. Plus the fact that I some times do not hear if someone got the position untill months later, it's very difficult to call you back and let you know that you didn't get the job.

Consider this an appology. I would also like to take this time to let those 1148 people know that you did not get the job. Sorry.

Multiple Offers

It's been a while since I last posted to the Career Advisor. I apologize for that. My time is being taken up with all of the job openings that I have to recruit for. Business si definitely good although I am still seeing managers who do not have any idea how to hire in this type of economy.

When the job market is good like it is, managers can not take their time to make decisions. Of the 51 people that I've hired since 10/17/05 I've had 4 of those take other positions while I was waiting for confirmation of a start date and 1 from a counter offer from his current employer. I know that those are not bad percentages but those are 5 hires that I could have had if we could get the managers to act quickly.

I'm sure this information is no surprise to those of you who are job hunting right now. It's easy for Knowledge Workers to receive multiple offers in a short period of time in this economy. Just remember not to burn any bridges. Be polite when you turn down offers and return calls. Offers that you turn down now may be needed in the future.
